Kevin Duggan był uczniem Wells Cathedral School i Wells Blue School. Studiował na Uniwersytecie Bath i w Royal College of Music. Naukę grę na organach pobierał u Dudleya Holroyda, Richarda Popplewell i Nicolasa Kynaston, klawesyn u Davida Ponsforda i Ruth Dyson a kompozycję u Georga Odam. Dawał recitale organowe w wielu krajach europejskich, w tym katedry św Pawła w Londynie, Ulm Münster w Niemczech, w. Jakuba w Pradze, Cagliari na Sardynii, w Kopenhadze i Katedra w Danii.  W 2006 roku napisał kantatę “Kontakion na Bornholmie” w związku z 60. rocznicą wyzwolenia Bornholmu od Rosjan. Muzyka chóralna obejmuje cykl “An Irish Trilogy”, oparty na średniowiecznych wierszach. Przez kilka lat dyrektorem muzycznym Bristolskiego Chóru Kameralnego i Chóru Kameralnego “Nordic Voices”. Przewodniczący Związku Muzycznego w Rønne organizującego na Bornholmie około 50 koncertów rocznie (www.kevinduggan.eu).

 

Music has been important for Kevin Duggan from an early age. Born in southwest England in 1959, he read music at Bath University and the Royal College of Music (London), studying organ with Dudley Holroyd, Richard Popplewell and Nicolas Kynaston and taking part in masterclasses given by Johannes Geffert and Gillian Weir. He won the RCM Clavichord Prize in

1981 and the West of England Organ Competition in 1983, also participating in several international organ competitions.

Kevin is an accomplished recitalist who has performed widely and received a number of favourable reviews. Since 2009 he has performed in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, The Faroe Islands, Germany, England, France. Poland, Spain and Italy.

Kevin is an experienced accompanist and harpsichordist. He is an examiner for the Associated Board and has adjudicated at music festivals.

A prolific composer, Kevin has written for a wide variety of musical forces, and received a number of commissions, including one for Copenhagen – city of culture 1996.  Recent music includes “Nicolaimessen” for soloists, organ and SSAATTBB and a piece for viola and organ. In 2006 he wrote “Kontakion for Bornholm”, a large-scale cantata in connection with the 60th anniversary of Bornholm’s liberation from the Russians. Examples of his music can be heard on YouTube, for example String Quartet, Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis.

Kevin was for several years Musical Director of Bristol Chamber Choir and the small chamber choir “Nordic Voices”. He is currently Organist of St. Nicolas, Rønne on the Danish island of Bornholm in Denmark – a church with a flourishing musical life, including several choirs and a wide variety of concerts. An annual international organ festival is now established at the end of August. Kevin is also vice chairman of Bornholms Musikfestival.

Kevin Duggan’s CD recording “Notes from a Small Island”, includes works by Leighton, Langlais, Duggan, Duruflé, Ropek, Eben and J.S. Bach.
